Our first trip of 2008 took us to Birmingham, AL, for the Hoppers 50-Year Celebration and Talley Reunion. We left for Birmingham January 11 and drove to Meridian, MS. We didn't leave 'til after lunch, so we chose to drive about 5+ hours before stopping for the night. Saturday morning we drove on to Birmingham and arrived in time to get some rest before time to get ready to go to the concert that night. Among those on the program were the Talley Trio, Kirk Talley, and the Hoppers! What a great night of singing with these artists. They sang some new songs as well as some of their favorite old ones. The artists told stories on each other from days gone by when they were first beginning their gospel music journey. There were some great stories! If you get a chance to see these particular groups together in concert, please make an effort to do so. You will laugh, and then you will cry. It was truly a blessed night of praise and worship. It was great to see the expressions on folks' faces when we told them that we were from TEXAS. They couldn't believe we drove that far (500+ miles one way) just for that concert. It was worth every mile we drove! By the way, I took Kirk a Pecan Pie, but I didn't carry it on my lap the whole trip this time as I did nearly three years ago. LOL Pictures are up from the concert.
On February 15, 2008, we left for Dallas. We had to leave a day early due to a train derailment near our home. There was a possibility that we might be evacuated, so we decided to go on to Dallas. We attended the Gaither Concert Saturday evening, Feb. 16, at the Ft. Worth Convention Center. We had a blessed time! Pictures are up from that concert. Hope you enjoy them!
In March we took a mini-vacation to Sanford, NC, to attend the Parker Homecoming Reunion. We left Jefferson on Wednesday, March 6, and drove to Chattanooga, TN, and spent the night. The next day we drove on to Pigeon Forge/Sevierville, TN, and spent the day and night. This is our favorite place to go. Go to www.applebarncidermill.com and I think you'll see why. We had lunch at the Apple Barn Grille where we were served Apple Fritters with Apple Butter and Apple Julep. This is a "must-place" to go if you're ever in the Pigeon Forge/Sevierville area. The grounds here are beautiful with Little Pigeon Forge River running along side all of the shops.
In the afternoon we went to the Tanger Mall where there must be 200+ shops. What a dream! There are all kinds of outlet stores. If you can't find it here, it just can't be found.
In the evening we went to Tony Gore's BBQ............more good, delicious food! We enjoyed the food and our visit with Tony as well.
On Friday we traveled to Sanford, NC, for the concerts. This was a fun time! Ivan had no idea that we were going to be there, so he was really surprised! The concerts were wonderful. The Harvesters, Brian Free & Assurance, and Ivan were part of the program on Friday night. Then on Saturday evening, Karen Peck and New River, the Harvesters, and Ivan were on the program. As special guest on Saturday was Ivan's mother. Both services were filled with the Holy Spirit, and we had "church".
Sunday morning we started home and drove as far as Birmingham and spent the night. We drove on home on Monday. Needless to say, we were pooped, but we really had a blessed time! Pictures are up!
Here it is July, and it has been quite sometime since we attended a concert, so we were really excited about going to Ft. Worth, TX, on Saturday, July 26, to see Ernie Haase & Signature Sound. WHAT A NIGHT! The Will Rogers Auditorium was filled to capacity for the evening's concert with young, middle-aged, and older people. EHSS hit the stage at 6 p.m., and the crowd went wild. Wayne Haun played the piano again for them this year. He does a tremendous job! It was such an enjoyable concert. EHSS does a great job of presenting the gospel in song. They also have a lot of fun, but Ernie doesn't forget to tell the story of Jesus throughout the concert. If you don't feel the Holy Spirit moving, then you must be dead. They sang a lot of their older songs and a lot from their new project, INFLUENCED, A VINTAGE QUARTET SESSION. Songs they sang included "If You Know the Lord", "My Heart is a Chapel", "The Old-Fashioned Meeting", "Lead Me, Guide Me", "Walk With Me", and "Oh, The Glory Did Roll". Of course, Ernie sang his signature song, "Oh, What a Savior". If you missed this concert or have never seen EHSS in concert, check out their schedule and see when they're going to be near you, www.signaturesoundquartet.com . Your heart will be blessed!! Pictures from the concert are up on our web site. Hope you enjoy the music as you view them.
We were past due for a trip to East Tennessee, so for our wedding anniversary on August 28th, we decided that we would celebrate it with Ivan Parker in Rising Fawn, GA. We left Jefferson on Wednesday afternoon, August 27th, and drove to Pearl, MS, for the night. Then we drove on to Rising Fawn on Thursday to surprise Ivan, and he was surprised to see us! The concert was wonderful as usual! We saw our friends Barbara Hall from Alabama and Betty Herndon from West Texas. Friday morning we traveled on to Gatlinburg for the Gatlinburg Gathering. Barbara and Betty were there, too, for the whole weekend. We had a wonderful time attending all of the concerts. Friday night featured Ivan Parker, Gold City, The Hoppers, The Perrys, Josh and Ashley Franks, and The Shaffers. Saturday we went to Tony Gore's BBQ and had a delicious lunch. Kirk Talley was working, but he was waiting on a large table of people, so he wouldn't wait on us. After lunch we took a helicopter ride. This was so much fun! The sights were beautiful! Saturday night's concert featured Brian Free and Assurance, The Greenes, The Talley Trio, The Pfeifers, The Collingsworth Family, and The Crist Family. Sunday night's concert featured Kirk Talley, Karen Peck and New River, Third Generation, The Booth Brothers, and Triumphant Quartet. Each night there were special messages, and people were saved. It was a wonderful time of Christian fellowship and gospel music. Our hearts were blessed! If you've never been to this Labor Day event, you should plan to attend next year. We started home on Monday and drove to Bryant, AR. On Tuesday we finished up our 1600-mile round trip when we arrived back in Jefferson POOPED OUT! But we had a really wonderful time. Pictures will be up soon.
